Good News...Bad News...

I have had an energy consuming project for the last 2+ years.  Medically fragile and special services at home funding are both cut off at the age of 18.  I have been getting increasingly anxious about how we will support the boys physical needs without the help of SSAH or MFTD funding to pay Kendra.

Without having a care plan it is next to impossible to plan for any type of post secondary education.  I knew that individualized funding existed in Ontario but had no idea how to access it or what it was called.  I had asked every agancy and service provider involved in the boys' care for the last 3 years about where to get help.  Most people said that this type of funding either didn't exist or didn't know how to find it despite the fact that all of these programs are funded by the provincial government.  I have complained for years that the right hand did not know what the left hand was doing.

After numerous hours on the computer and phone lately I finally has an application and contact information for direct funding through the Centre for Independent Living in Toronto http://cilt.ca/default.aspx

Application forms can be found here:  http://cilt.ca/funding_app.aspx

I want to share this so that others out there don't loose valuable time searching for what should be readily available to all clients with physical disabilities.

The bad news is that the waiting list is 3 years.
