School and organizational skills

It is that time of the year again.  I'm breaking out all the new books and getting ready to start the new school year.

I picked up a book at the library called "That Crumpled Paper Was Due Last Week" written by Ana Homayoun. The goal of the book is to "Help Disorganized and Distracted Boys Succeed in School and Life." I am about half way through and must say that I have already found several ideas that I am going to try with my boys. I have developed my own strategies for getting organized but it would appear that my boys need to be taught the specifics. Based on what I have read this is not an uncommon problem for boys.

My sons are both organizationally challenged.  There are times when their clutter exceeds my thresh hold for mess.  Today's project was to clean up their desk areas (yes that included dusting surfaces and putting things away).  It amazes me how explicit directions need to be for otherwise bright boys when it comes to getting organized!  Who knew that a garbage bag full of paper could accumulate over the summer?

What a difference!  I should have had before and after pictures.

I will have to keep you posted as the school year progresses.
