Changing

Despite some misgivings before it was time to travel Andrew spent 11 days at Ask & Imagine.

I saw such a difference in him when he returned.  It was like he grew up during his short time away.  He seemed more mature and confident.  He was both excited and exhausted.  He would ramble on telling me about his activities and suddenly stop to quietly reflect further on all that he had experienced.  He was pushed to try new things and explore new ideas.  We continue to enjoy each tidbit from the story as it is shared.  I expect that this experience was one that will continue to be shared through reflections and friendships down the road.

It is so amazing to watch him growing up into an impressive young man despite all of the challenges he faces.

Here is a short look at his week.

Letting go to let grow

Andrew is away from home for the first time without us.  Just before it was time to get picked up to go Andrew was quite anxious.  It would have been easy to say stay but he won't learn and grow if we don't encourage him to step out of his comfort zone.

He has gone on a retreat program called Ask & Imagine.  http://www.askandimagine.org/  The program brings youth from across Canada to ask questions and explore their faith.  I know that he needs this time away from us to grow and explore.  I look forward to hearing about his adventures in emails from the program.  I know that this experience will change and challenge him.

It will also be a time of challenge for Josh who will miss his brother a great deal.  I will have to make sure that we keep him busy.  Our support worker is with Andrew so for the most part Josh and I will have lots of time together over the next week and a half.

I think that all of us may be doing some growing up in the days to come.
