During the early years that we homeschooled I managed pretty much on my own but a few years later when we pulled the boys out of school I joined some homeschool groups and attended my first conference only 2 weeks after starting to homeschool. It truly was a baptism by fire that was quite overwhelming. I was completely amazed by all of the resources out there that I had never heard of.
I did plan ahead and had a list of the subjects and grade levels I was looking for at least. It would have been very easy to spend far more money than we could afford though. I have made some purchases over the years that did not work or worked well for one child and not the other. Naturally they have very different learning styles.
Now that they are both in high school the stakes are much higher so I am very selective with the materials we use. It's time to start researching again to determine what we will be studying next year because the conference registration forms are arriving.
