We have used a variety of advent calendars and books over the years as we prepared for Christmas. We sat down with the boys a couple of weeks ago to discuss what activities they wanted included in our Christmas and Advent activities this year.
We have an advent wreath which we usually do each Sunday through advent. I prepare scripture verse and readings to accompany the candle lighting. We usually try to include so sort of family activity.
The boys also requested that weuse the advent calendar on DVDthat I purchased a few years ago. After dinner each night we watch the 3-4 minute segment for that day. The segments look at the Christian connections to many of the contemporary Christmas traditions and symbols. Some of the topics include: wreaths, mistletoe, candy canes, Christmas trees, angels, and many more.
For our bible study for school we will be centring our study around the Jesse tree that I made a few years ago.
This weekend is very busy with my husband's play opening. Our son, Andrew is in the cast and as of about 12 days ago my husband now has a part as well because one of the lead actors is ill and can't continue with his role. We will have family and friends going to the show on Saturday and coming back to our house for dinner. So far it looks like we have 17 people coming for dinner.

I have started putting up many of our Christmas decorations and pulled out some of the christmas music too. We usually put up our tree o the first weekend of advent. I think that we will make time to do this task as a family on Sunday night. Afterwards we will enjoy a quiet evening with a family movie and special snacks.
What are some of your family traditions for Christmas?
