Nocturnal visitor

We woke up the other morning to discover that this had happend to the canopy on our swing in the backyard.

Based on the paw and claw marks we suspect that a racoon discovered that the canopy was not an ideal place to land.  Despite living in a residential area of the city we do seem to see an awful lot of wildlife around including:  racoons, skunks (on the front porch a couple of nights ago), moles, shrews, field mice and many different kinds of birds.

  1. That happened to our shade tent a few years ago - also in the fall. It was squirrels! We had the windows open on a nice day, and heard a ripping sounds. Looked out back, and squirrels were tearing strips out of the roof of the tent. It was a few years old, and I guess it was sun-rotted enough that they could get a good grip and start ripping!

  2. We have seen the coons around the yard and in the tree on the other side a few times. This hole looks like someone landed and went right through.

Since the rest of the swing is intact we may try to get the canopy replaced.
